We built the billing system we kept rebuilding.
Tessera started in 2023 after its founders wrote the same metering pipeline at three different companies. Each time it began as a cron job and a spreadsheet, and each time it ended as a team of four.
Today we are thirty-one people across Berlin and Toronto. More than 900 companies send their invoices through Tessera, from two person API startups to public infrastructure companies.

Every number has a source
If a figure appears on an invoice, a customer can click through to the events behind it. No exceptions, no black boxes.

Boring is a feature
Billing should be the least exciting part of your stack. We ship small, versioned changes and keep old API versions running.

Finance is a user too
Engineers integrate Tessera once. Finance uses it every day. Exports, audit trails and close tools get the same care as the API.
